In response benjamin's claim that film is "the most serviceable vehicle of this new understanding" of art as no longer having "cult value" or use in magic, I couldn't help but think of a filmmaker who somehow did use filmmaking for these purposes that would seem to be considered obsolete.




Kenneth Anger's a particularly odd case. I think the cult value of his films was probably dependent on the reception at the time of their release, which I'm not totally aware of. I assume there were people who took his relationship to magic very seriously.
